Community program open to help prepare tax returns

Free for eligible residents with low income and simple tax situation

Need help with your taxes? The Community Volunteer Income Tax Program (CVITP) is open and free to eligible residents who have low income and a simple tax situation. Even if you have no income to report, filing taxes may qualify you to receive various government benefits. Volunteers can also help you catch up on your taxes by preparing returns for previous years.

This volunteer program is offered through the Okotoks Family Resource Centre, serving the residents of Okotoks, Turner Valley, Black Diamond and Foothills County. Volunteers are screened through the Okotoks Volunteer Resource Centre and are trained by the Canada Revenue Agency to prepare simple tax returns (via e-file when possible).

CVITP is not suitable for complex tax situations, including: self-employment income or employment expenses; business or rental income and expenses; interest income over $1,000; capital gains or losses; foreign property (T1135); bankrupt individuals in the year of bankruptcy (or the year prior, if that return has not been filed); and deceased individuals.

For more information and to book an appointment, call 403-995-2626. To learn more about eligibility requirements, visit okotoks.ca/CVITP
